Excel Tip – Use the F4 Key as a Repeat

It is September 1st which means… yes…you know what it means! It’s time for another ‘Keep it Simple‘ tip! This month it is Excel and we’re looking at another use for the F4 key – and this time it’s to show you how to use it to repeat an action that you’ve taken.

Hello!

Today we’re going to see how we can repeat an action that we take in Excel – using – the F4 Key!

Add in a New Row

I’m going to put in a new row above Row 4.

  • So, I’ll right-click on the Row 4 heading and select Insert.

  • And my new row goes in as normal.
  • Now I’ve decided I want another row – so I press the F4 key – at the top of the Keyboard – to repeat that action.

  • Another row is added!
  • Press F4 again…

Press the F4 key to add a 3rd row

  • And I’ll press it one more time…

Press F4 key to add in the 4th row

  • That’s 4 rows added!

Delete a Row

I think I’ll delete one of those blank rows now.

  • So, I’ll right-click on the Row 4 heading and select Delete.

Right-click into row 4 heading to carry out a Delete

  • Then to repeat that deletion – I press F4 again.

Use F4 to repeat the row deletion

  • I’ll press F4 again…

Press F4 to delete the 3rd row

  • And I’ll press F4 again!

Press F4 to delete the 4th row

  • All 4 rows are now gone!

Insert a Column

  • I’ll right-click into the heading of the C column – and select Insert.

  • To repeat that action, press F4

Insert a 2nd column using the F4 key

  • I’ll press F4 again…

Insert a 3rd column using the F4 key

  • And press F4 once more…

Delete a Column

  • I’ll right-click into the column C heading and select Delete.

  • Then I’ll repeat the deletion by pressing the F4 key.

  • And press F4 again…

Delete a 3rd column by pressing the F4 key

  • And yes, let’s do it one more time…

  • It’s just tooooooo easy…!
